I started painting animals in 2003. My background is in acrylic and watercolor painting, but over the last few years I have explored digital possibilities in my art also. Rather than one medium being better than the other, I find that digital art improves my traditional artwork, and vice versa.

I especially love working with color, light and shadow — the bolder the better. I also believe that it is sometimes possible to incorporate elements of storytelling and fantasy in portraits of our “ordinary” pets. Even though they share our homes, they inhabit a different world than we do, and have their own adventures.

In the rest of my spare time, I do historical research relating to my home region of Central New York, getting out and exploring historical sites, the more obscure the better. I hope to incorporate this in my artwork in the future.
